Sometimes it is hard to make sense of our sufferings
as we grow older as we deal with illness, or as we give up our homes as we know them to be taken care of by others in new surroundings. But God assures us we are not alone. He is with us. One of the great treasures of the Catholic Church is that we only have to ask, and Jesus is there to help us carry our difficulties, our crosses.
He gives us the courage and strength we need. Something that can be very meaningful as we go through difficult circumstances or trying times in our lives is that we can offer up or unite our sufferings and sacrifices to Jesus’s one sacrifice on the Cross.
Then our suffering becomes purposeful. It is not wasted.
Jesus uses our united sufferings to change hearts, to heal, to redeem, to pour out His Graces upon us and others. Maybe you are dealing with an illness, a recovery from surgery, isolation, loneliness, anxiety, or maybe you are going through the normal life changes of empty nest or growing older.
These can all be difficult transitions. Your trials, your sufferings, your struggles, your pain united with Jesus’s suffering on the cross is so powerful. It is redemptive. Would you prayerfully consider offering up your prayers, sacrifices and sufferings for our Priests?
